Maxi-taxi drivers operating along the Priority Bus Route (PBR) are contemplating a potential fare increase for short-distance trips due to the rising operational costs as a result of recent government adjustments. The quarterly toll for maxi-taxis using the PBR has doubled to $600, raising concerns that commuters may soon bear the brunt of these adjustments. The proposal is for a $3 increase on short-drop fares. Alongside the higher toll, other cost increases include doubled traffic fines and an expected rise in the price of vehicle parts due to increased customs fees. With all these adjustments happening simultaneously, drivers believe fare increases might be inevitable. Some are proposing to maintain the standard $10 fare for longer distances while hiking the short-drop fare from $5 to $8 to align with existing taxi fares.
