A controversy erupted at a school in Hyderabad’s Sayeedabad after a teacher allegedly assigned religious homework to a Class 2 student. The school management swiftly terminated the teacher’s services and permanently barred her from future employment with the Success Group of Education Institutions.
The issue came to light when a relative of the student noticed the assigned tasks included reading Kalma and Surah Fatiha. ‘Religious content should not be mixed with education,’ the relative said, adding that children from different backgrounds attend school for quality education.
Following a formal complaint by parents and local BJP leaders, police detained several protesters, including BJP leader Andela Sriramulu Yadav and advocate Karuna Sagar, who demanded an FIR against the principal. Yadav alleged that AIMIM leaders were behind the incident, while others called for the school’s recognition to be canceled.
The school’s termination order stated that the teacher’s services were ended with effect from July 16 and that she was permanently disqualified from applying for jobs in the group. Police have not yet commented on further investigations.
