Received benefits without having worked in Iceland
Morgunblaðið has obtained documents indicating that several foreign nationals have been receiving municipal financial assistance in Iceland for extended periods. The assistance is intended as an emergency measure for individuals who are unable to support themselves through other means.
The documents, obtained by the newspaper, show that the beneficiaries are not required to have worked in Iceland to qualify for the aid. The Social Insurance Administration oversees the distribution of these funds.
