The Ministry of Education head office has been infested with rats for the past few months, with the rodents appearing on desks and eating staff lunches, according to former minister Nyan Gadsby-Dolly. She said the situation is “totally unacceptable and disgusting” and warned that a refusal to work is looming because staff are fed up.
Gadsby-Dolly, who previously questioned Minister Dowlath about the infestation in Parliament when it began, said the minister assured her the matter was being handled. However, she stated that after months of assurances, the problem remains unsolved.
Daily cleaning has not resolved the infestation, according to Gadsby-Dolly. She is calling on Minister Dowlath to act now to address the issue, stressing that the conditions persist despite the cleaning efforts.
The infestation poses health risks to public servants and disrupts operations at the ministry. Staff frustration has reached a point where a refusal to work is possible if the situation is not resolved, Gadsby-Dolly said.
