Public Transport Unity During Maxi Taxi Strike Highlights Community Spirit

As maxi taxi drivers in Trinidad and Tobago engage in a strike, the collaboration between the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) and the Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) has emerged as a beacon of public service. Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro and PTSC General Manager Lieutenant Colonel (Ret’d) Patrick Gomez addressed the media, revealing that the initiative to bolster public transportation came directly from the urgent need to maintain safety and accessibility for commuters during this time of unrest.

The strike’s impact on everyday transport prompted immediate action. In just two days, additional buses have been deployed, resulting in what Commissioner Guevarro described as a near 200% increase in transportation capacity. Reports from commuters indicate a positive response, as many expressed relief at the organized alternative provided by the authorities. The spirit of cooperation and prompt action has proven vital, particularly for those caught without transportation barriers during peak hours.

Commissioner Guevarro reassured the public that their safety was the driving force behind this collaboration, emphasizing the importance of public sentiment during community disruptions. As public order was maintained at the bus terminals, it stands as a testament to their ability to adapt and respond effectively during the strike. As discussions regarding the strike continue, the TTPS and PTSC remain committed to providing seamless support for all citizens in transit, ensuring that Trinidad and Tobago travels safely home.
