Public Pressure Mounts on Police Commissioner Over Fatal Shooting

Public outrage is growing against Police Commissioner Alister Guevarro due to his refusal to suspend officers implicated in the fatal shooting of Joshua Samaroo, a 31-year-old man. The shooting incident, which occurred over a week ago, also left Samaroo’s common-law wife, Kaia Sealy, injured and hospitalized. Protests have been carried out by friends, relatives, and activist groups, demanding Commissioner Guevarro and Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander’s removal. They argue that there’s a lack of action and justice. The First Wave Movement activist group has also protested outside the Police Commissioner’s office, insisting on firm accountability. Despite officers involved in the shooting being reassigned from active field duties, the group believes this isn’t enough. They demand the officers be suspended pending the investigation’s outcome. Public concern has deepened due to a police raid in the St. Augustine area days after the shooting, which has been ill-received by locals and the deceased’s relatives. Investigations continue amid intense public scrutiny and calls for transparency, accountability, and justice for Joshua Samaroo and his family.
