Residents of the gated apartment complex in West Moorings were startled by the sound of gunshots on Monday afternoon. The shots led to the grim discovery of Wayne Yip Choy, a 73-year-old resident, dead in the compound’s car park. Police responded to the scene at Harbour View on Ocean Boulevard shortly before 2:00 p.m. They found Yip Choy lying beneath a tree, face down with apparent gunshot injuries, and a firearm close by. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a district medical officer.
The alarm was raised by the apartment complex manager and security officers who had heard the gunshots. Upon investigating, they found Yip Choy’s body. Crime scene officers seized several items from the location and Yip Choy’s apartment, including electronic devices, documents, and other materials of potential investigative interest. A licensed firearm registered to Yip Choy, along with ammunition, was also recovered.
Preliminary enquiries, which included a review of CCTV footage, suggest that Yip Choy was alone in the car park at the time of the incident. His body has since been moved to the Forensic Science Centre where a post-mortem examination will be conducted.
Yip Choy was a well-respected figure in the local manufacturing sector, with a career spanning decades. He held several influential positions and made significant contributions, particularly as the CEO of Angostura Holdings Ltd during a time of financial instability. He is credited with helping to steer the company back to stability following the fallout from the CL Financial collapse.
