Prolonged Blackouts in Five Egyptian Governorates Spark Public Anger

A severe infrastructure crisis has left multiple provincial towns and agricultural villages completely gridlocked across the governorates of Qalyubia, the Red Sea, Port Said, Sharqia, and Minya. Local monitoring boards confirmed that prolonged, unannounced electrical grid collapses are occurring for multiple hours at irregular intervals without any prior warning.

The blackouts have plunged communities into darkness, disrupting daily life, businesses, and farming operations. Residents report feeling abandoned by authorities as the outages strain medical facilities and water pumps. The irregular timing makes it impossible to plan for the outages, compounding the frustration.

Egypt Daily News reports that the crisis highlights long-standing deficiencies in the national power grid, with demand outstripping supply and maintenance backlogs. Officials have not yet issued a statement addressing the specific cause or timeline for restoration. The situation remains fluid, with further outages expected.
