Private Sector to Govt: Don’t Treat Us as Mere Witnesses in Job Creation

Private sector representatives in Nepal have voiced concerns that the government regards them as mere ‘witnesses’ rather than partners in efforts to create domestic jobs. During a discussion at the Ministry of Youth, Labour and Employment on Thursday, business chamber leaders stressed that their input is often overlooked.

Minister Ramaji Yadav responded by pledging that the government would treat the private sector as a ‘partner’ for progress, not a bystander. He emphasized mutual cooperation and coordination moving forward.

The representatives called for demand-based training, inclusion in skills curriculum development, and certification for job seekers. They also raised practical issues such as smooth electricity supply for small industries, tax reductions, and rewards for gender balance in workplaces.

The meeting was attended by lawmakers Bidushi Rana and Anushka Shrestha, along with joint secretaries and private sector officials. The government plans to run over 12 domestic employment programs in the coming fiscal year and improve the ‘Shram Sansar’ online portal.
