President William Ruto is set to launch a national dialogue on Kenya’s Vision 2060 plan at the Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC) on Wednesday. The event will bring together representatives from the Executive, Judiciary, and legislative arms of government, as well as 5,000 Kenyans from 47 counties.
The National Treasury, led by Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, has been making final preparations for the convention, which aims to gather proposals for the Vision 2060 economic transformation plan. According to CS Mbadi, the national dialogue marks the beginning of public engagement and participation, as enshrined in the constitution, to inform Kenyans towards achieving Vision 2060.
CS Mbadi emphasized that the vision is not solely owned by President Ruto, but rather a collective effort to build on the progress made towards realizing Vision 2030. He encouraged participants to come with their ideas and opinions to contribute to the conversation.
The dialogue is expected to define the country’s post-Vision 2030 agenda, focusing on robust institutions, human capital, and inclusive development. The conversation aims to examine Kenya’s long-term priorities and strengthen the policy foundations necessary to introduce and sustain economic development.
Once the national development charter is adopted, it will be formulated and tabled in Parliament as a bill. If passed by the bicameral house, it will be assented to by President Ruto, anchoring the deliberations into a legislative policy.
CS Mbadi noted that the goal is to achieve a first-world economic status in 25 years, emphasizing the importance of collective effort and formulation of a comprehensive plan. Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyongo will also be among the leaders attending the convention.
