A tragic incident occurred in Guyana’s Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where a pregnant woman reportedly jumped to death from a hospital window. The woman, who was admitted due to headaches and abnormal behaviour, was under the care of the Internal Medicine team. Upon observing behavioural concerns, she was referred for psychiatric assessment. Despite no signs of suicidal ideation or psychotic symptoms during the assessment, the woman tragically ended her life on January 18th. The hospital is now conducting a full internal investigation into the incident and will review their current patient observation and mental health monitoring protocols. Meanwhile, psychosocial and psychiatric support services have been offered to the affected family and staff. The hospital extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased.
