Port Workers Protest Enters Third Day Over Unanswered Safety Concerns

Port workers in Trinidad and Tobago have staged a lunchtime protest for a third consecutive day, saying they are still awaiting answers on safety concerns, ongoing negotiations and other outstanding workplace issues.

Workers involved in the demonstration say frustration is growing over what they describe as a lack of communication from both port authorities and management.

One worker said several matters have been raised but employees have received little or no response.

“Safety problems, we’re not getting no answers. We have negotiation going on, we’re not getting no answers. In how many other issues we’re having, we’re not getting no answers from nobody,” the worker said.

The worker added that employees have heard “nothing from port authorities, nothing from management, nothing from nobody.”

The lunchtime demonstrations have now continued for three straight days as workers seek responses to their concerns.

Workers say negotiations are taking place, but they remain dissatisfied with what they describe as a lack of meaningful communication on the issues affecting them.

The continued action signals growing frustration among employees, particularly over workplace safety and unresolved matters connected to negotiations.

For now, workers say they intend to continue highlighting their concerns as they await answers from those responsible for addressing them.
