**PSD Deputy Mircea Govor Criticises PNL and USR Boycott of Parliamentary Session**

*Bucharest, 2 September 2026* – In the opening days of the new parliamentary session, Mircea Govor, a Social Democratic Party (PSD) deputy representing Satu Mare, publicly condemned the decision of the National Liberal Party (PNL) and the Save Romania Union (USR) to leave the plenary and boycott the activity of the Chamber of Deputies. Govor’s remarks were reported by *Gazeta Nord‑Vest*.

Govor said the boycott, which was triggered by dissatisfaction with the allocation of leadership positions within the legislature, “is regrettable at a time when Romania needs stability, solutions and responsible decisions.” He added that the mandate of a deputy “does not mean functions or privileges, but work, responsibility and respect for the people who sent us to Parliament.”

The deputy emphasized that the focus of elected representatives should be on addressing citizens’ concerns and adopting concrete legislative measures, rather than using disputes over parliamentary posts as a pretext for halting parliamentary work. “The quality of a parliamentarian should be judged by the work done for those who gave us the vote, not by the functions obtained in the parliamentary leadership structures,” Govor said.

Govor also reiterated his priorities for the new session, stating that his agenda remains centered on “Romania, the county of Satu Mare and the problems of our constituents.” He pledged to continue supporting legislative initiatives that he believes can provide tangible solutions and to engage in resolving issues raised by residents of Satu Mare.

The comments came as parliamentary activity resumed after a brief interruption, amid ongoing tensions between the governing coalition and opposition parties over recent decisions of the majority.

On the same day, Govor hosted a group of students from Jibou who visited the Parliament. The visitors were received in the meeting room of the Committee for Agriculture, accompanied by the deputy mayor of Jibou and invited by Sălaj deputy Ionel Ciunt. Govor used the occasion to stress the importance of a functional Parliament and of politicians taking their mandate seriously. “Young people who cross our threshold have the right to see a Parliament that works and politicians who fulfill their mandate with seriousness,” he told the students.

Concluding his statement, Govor affirmed his role as a representative of Satu Mare, saying, “I am in Parliament as a deputy of the people of Satu Mare, for Satu Mare and for Romania.”

The incident highlights the continued friction between the PSD and the liberal and USR blocs over the distribution of parliamentary leadership roles, and it underscores the broader debate on how elected officials should balance political negotiations with legislative responsibilities.
