In a troubling development for press freedom in Nigeria, journalist Stanley Ugagbe has been detained again by the Nigeria Police Force just days after his release. According to information obtained by Secrets Reporters, Ugagbe was taken into custody on Monday, July 13, 2026, and is facing a secret arraignment before a Federal High Court in Abuja.
The detention is reportedly on the orders of Central Bank of Nigeria Deputy Governor Emem Usoro. The secret nature of the planned arraignment has raised alarm among press freedom advocates, who see it as an attempt to circumvent due process and public scrutiny.
