The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested Onoja Samuel, a Deputy Superintendent of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), following a shooting incident at a market in the Kubwa area of Abuja. According to the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, the incident occurred on October 25, 2026. At approximately 1:50 p.m., the Kubwa Police Division received a distress call reporting an armed individual firing shots into the air at the market. Police operatives were dispatched to the scene, where they disarmed and arrested the suspect. Preliminary investigations revealed that Samuel had arrived at the market armed with a pistol after receiving reports that his wife had been assaulted by traders. During a subsequent confrontation with the traders, Samuel reportedly fired several shots into the air. Authorities recovered a CZ pistol and 17 rounds of live 9mm ammunition from the suspect. Samuel remains in police custody and is expected to be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation. Following the arrest, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, issued a statement urging personnel from sister security agencies to exercise restraint. He advised that officers should notify the relevant police divisions when conducting sanctioned operations within the FCT to ensure proper coordination and prevent potential conflicts.
