Eight men, aged between 19 and 39, have been arrested in connection with a violent robbery outside Adam’s Bagels on Saddle Road, Maraval, in which a 56-year-old woman was beaten and robbed of her handbag containing TT$22,000.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, and details of the arrests were confirmed by Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) Public Information Officer, Acting Superintendent Owie Russell, during the police service’s weekly media briefing on Wednesday, October 21.

According to Russell, three men approached the woman as she returned to her vehicle in the establishment’s car park. The attackers allegedly struck her repeatedly on the head and body before escaping with her handbag.

Police reported that the handbag contained TT$22,000 in cash, an iPhone 12 and three bank cards.

Following the robbery, officers intercepted a black Honda City along Morne Coco Road in Petit Valley, arresting four men who were travelling in the vehicle.

Further investigations led to four additional arrests, bringing the total number of men detained in connection with the incident to eight.

Police also recovered a vehicle believed to have been used in the robbery. It was discovered abandoned along the North Coast Road, opposite Maracas Bay.

Russell said a handbag and documents identified as belonging to the victim were found inside the vehicle.

Meanwhile, management of Adam’s Bagels has responded to the incident, announcing plans to strengthen security at the establishment.

Management said security arrangements were being reviewed, with increased measures to be implemented immediately and maintained throughout the busy Christmas season.

The establishment also assured customers that its security station would remain staffed at all times.

The incident has renewed attention on customer safety in commercial car parks, particularly as businesses prepare for increased shopping activity during the Christmas period.
