Poikkeuksellinen tilanne aamujunassa: ”Kaikki eivät mahtuneet kyytiin”

A R‑train from Riihimäki to Helsinki experienced an unusual situation on Tuesday morning, with only one carriage in service. The train was fully occupied, and passengers reported that there was no space to move. “The carriage was completely full, and there was no room to move,” said reader Ninni Ahokas, who was traveling to school in the single carriage. She added that people were “pushing from behind” and that everyone had to squeeze into the one carriage. According to Ahokas, the carriage was filled to the limit and no additional passengers could be admitted. The conductor announced that, for safety reasons, no more people could board. Passengers who were left outside were advised to use HSL trains. “VR is the fastest of all,” she said, noting that the K‑train takes longer. Ahokas also mentioned that she was in a hurry to get to school, and that many others were likely in a stressful situation. VR’s communication confirmed that the R‑train normally operates between Tampere and Riihimäki with a single carriage, but on Tuesday it ran in the same configuration all the way to Helsinki. After arriving in Helsinki, the train returned to Tampere with only one carriage. VR explained that the reason for the single‑carriage operation was a previous disruption that affected the rolling‑stock rotation. “Because the equipment scheduled for the shift was not available, the train had to run with a single unit,” the company said. VR also noted that the local train fleet is used efficiently, so individual faults or delays can impact the composition of other train sets.
