The People’s National Movement (PNM) has expressed strong criticism towards the government’s approach to the ‘Stand Your Ground’ legislation. The party describes the ongoing consultations as politically charged and lacking in inclusivity. Opposition members have raised concerns, pointing out that the government seems to have decided on the matter beforehand, thus negating the essence of true consultation. Vice Chair and MP Karim Marcel highlighted the seriousness of the issue, stating that it requires a sober dialogue and sincere public involvement, not political posturing. The PNM has announced plans to organize its own consultations and use the Freedom of Information requests to push for transparency.
