PM Welcomes MV Isalei to Boost Maritime Connectivity for Isabel Province

Caretaker Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele officially welcomed the handover of MV Isalei in Honiara, a fast craft donated by China’s Shandong Province to Isabel Province. Speaking at the Point Cruz Yacht Club ceremony, PM Manele highlighted the vessel’s role in improving transport and connectivity for remote communities.

The 11.5-metre vessel can carry 10 passengers and two crew members, with an endurance of up to 210 nautical miles. It will enhance access to services and support safer maritime travel across Isabel Province and nearby islands.

PM Manele, a son of Isabel Province, said the handover carries personal significance. ‘This vessel represents friendship translated into action and practical cooperation that directly benefits our people,’ he said.

The Prime Minister commended Isabel Province Premier Lawrence Hayward for securing the donation, and thanked the Chinese government for their continued partnership. The ceremony underscores growing bilateral ties and practical development cooperation.
