PM Persad-Bissessar Slams Gang Unity Calls as ‘Sick and Evil’

In a forceful denunciation, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has lashed out against calls for gang unity amidst recent protests linked to the high-profile case of Joshua Samaroo and Kaia Sealy. Describing the call for gangs to unite against law enforcement as “sick and evil,” Persad-Bissessar has vowed her government’s unwavering support for Trinidad and Tobago’s law enforcement agencies in their efforts to maintain public safety.

Speaking at an Indian Arrival Day celebration in Penal, Persad-Bissessar reaffirmed her commitment to protecting law-abiding citizens. She criticized opposition leaders, accusing them of aligning themselves with protest movements, thereby exacerbating tensions in an already volatile situation. Her statements come amidst a backdrop of growing concerns over gang-related violence that continues to plague Trinidad and Tobago.

The recent protests, which have drawn large crowds and significant public attention, are centered on the contentious case involving Joshua Samaroo and Kaia Sealy. The case has sparked heated debates, with public figures and citizens expressing a spectrum of opinions, further driving divisions within communities. Persad-Bissessar’s comments are seen as an attempt to rally national unity and bolster confidence in her administration’s approach to tackling crime.

Persad-Bissessar emphasized the necessity for unity among all citizens, urging them to focus on the collective goal of a peaceful and secure nation. Her remarks highlight the government’s stance against any form of support or perceived alignment with criminal elements, underscoring the ongoing battle against gang violence—a persistent issue that affects daily life in the country.

Amid escalating public discourse, the Prime Minister’s strong statements seek to reassure citizens of her administration’s resolve in addressing the growing threat of gang violence and maintaining law and order across Trinidad and Tobago.
