PM Persad-Bissessar Addresses Public Backlash, Announces New Legislation Amid Political Tension

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has finally broken her silence on the Kaia Sealy case, which has sparked a public uproar. Sealy now faces a manslaughter charge in relation to the death of her common-law husband, Joshua Samaroo. Amid the controversy, the Prime Minister defended the role of law enforcement, invoking contentious sayings about morality and violence.

Persad-Bissessar’s comments come in the midst of a heated debate about how the case was handled and broader concerns over the role of law enforcement in controversial investigations. In addition to addressing the Sealy case, the Prime Minister also tackled several key national issues. She defended her government’s performance during the first session of the 13th Republican Parliament and acknowledged the need for progress ahead of the second session scheduled on June 5.
