The Independent Bench is under scrutiny after the Prime Minister accused two of its senators of seeking favors. The accused senators, whose identities remain undisclosed, have requested the Prime Minister to reveal their names, thereby absolving others from suspicion. In response, independent senator Anthony Vieira has indicated his intention to present a motion of privileges. The dynamics between the Prime Minister’s involvement in the House and how it impacts the Senate and House of Representatives Privileges Committees remain to be seen. Meanwhile, there are queries about the Prime Minister’s presence at a Senate session concerning her UN trip, to which Vieira responded negatively. Despite the opposition’s call for the Prime Minister to be referred to the Privileges Committee, Vieira clarified that his action was prompted by the need to defend his reputation as an independent senator.
