In a concerted effort to elevate sports development across Trinidad and Tobago, Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, Phillip Watts, convened a pivotal meeting with former national football star Stern John. The discussions, which took place at the Ministry’s headquarters, underscored a renewed commitment to advancing athlete development and revitalizing grassroots programs.

The meeting with John, renowned for his groundbreaking contributions to Trinidad and Tobago’s football landscape, centered on strengthening pathways for national sports excellence. Minister Watts emphasized the critical role that sporting icons like John can play in nurturing young talent and creating sustainable platforms for future athletes.

A highlight from the Ministry’s recent engagements was the successful hosting of the Football Fiesta 2026, wherein the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs (MSYA) team secured a decisive 5-0 win. Watts expressed his gratitude for John’s active participation in this event, which accentuates the Ministry’s strategy of collaborating with celebrated athletes to inspire and motivate the next generation.

John’s involvement marks a strategic step in harnessing experienced athletes to foster a culture of collaboration and development. The Ministry aims to capitalize on this synergy, ensuring that up-and-coming athletes are given the opportunities and mentorship needed to succeed on national and international stages.
