**Authorities Investigate Fatal Phantom Aircraft Crash Near Tanagra**
Authorities have launched an investigation into the causes of a fatal aircraft crash involving a Phantom fighter jet near the hill of Profitis Ilias in the Oinofyta region. The incident resulted in the deaths of the two pilots, injuries to two other individuals, and significant property damage.
According to preliminary observations at the crash site, the aircraft appears to have struck a high-voltage utility pole, subsequently dragging down power lines and trees. The impact caused the aircraft to disintegrate, scattering debris over a wide area.
A significant portion of the fuselage and the remains of the two pilots were located within an olive grove. The aircraft’s two engines were found at separate locations: one in a nearby photovoltaic park and the second inside a factory that manufactures and maintains agricultural machinery. The impact of the engine caused a major fire at the factory, resulting in extensive damage to the facility.
Emergency services have since contained the fire, with only minor hotspots remaining in nearby ravines.
Reports indicate that the crash occurred during an aerial maneuver conducted as part of preparations for an upcoming air show scheduled at Tanagra Airport.
The incident has prompted renewed discussion regarding safety protocols for military exercises and demonstrations conducted in proximity to residential areas—a concern previously raised by residents of Schimatari, Oinofyta, and surrounding communities.
The Hellenic Air Force and relevant authorities are currently focused on gathering evidence to determine the precise circumstances and factors that led to the crash.
