PH Taxi Driver Shot in Caroni During Altercation; Suspect Arrested by Police

A 28-year-old PH taxi driver is recovering after being shot during a confrontation in Kelly Village, Caroni, on Friday afternoon. The incident, which occurred at approximately 4:45 p.m., involved an altercation between the victim and a 23-year-old man along with several other individuals.

According to police reports, the suspect allegedly produced a firearm during the confrontation and opened fire, injuring the driver in the buttocks and right knee. The wounded man was quickly transported by private vehicle to the Chaguanas Health Centre, where he received medical treatment before being discharged.

Officers from the Caroni Police District swiftly responded to the scene, conducting witness interviews and processing the area for evidence. During their investigation, they recovered one spent 9mm projectile and sought nearby CCTV footage that might assist in identifying further details of the incident.

Based on information gathered, the police later arrested a 23-year-old man from Kelly Village in connection with the shooting. Investigations are still ongoing as authorities continue to piece together the events that led to the violent encounter.

Residents of Kelly Village expressed concern over the shooting, emphasizing the need for increased security measures in the area. The police have assured the community of their commitment to bringing the perpetrator to justice and maintaining peace in the neighborhood.
