Peter C Lewis Says Machel Montano Suggested The Name Synergy TV And Its Purpose

Peter C Lewis says Machel Montano played a direct role in the early identity of Synergy TV, including suggesting the station’s name. Lewis told the Cory Shepherd podcast that his desire to create a television station was driven partly by the lack of local platforms giving audiences sustained access to Trinidad and Tobago artistes. He said Montano supported his television ambitions while Lewis, in turn, supported Montano’s musical direction. According to Lewis, when the television project began taking shape, Montano suggested the name “Synergy TV” around the idea of bringing cultures together. Lewis said the station was created with a clear purpose rather than simply as another television channel. He also explained that he studied international television programming while developing Synergy’s early schedule. Lewis recalled watching MTV closely and realising that programmes were repeated through rotating blocks. That observation helped shape Synergy TV’s early programming strategy, which Lewis said initially relied on a roughly four-hour content grid that could be repeated. The station later became known for programmes featuring local music, personalities and youth-oriented entertainment, building the type of visibility Lewis believed local artistes had previously lacked.
