A Peruvian journalist and political candidate, Susy Aponte Polo, was shot and killed while campaigning for office. Known professionally as China Polo, she was fatally attacked on September 20, 2026.
The incident occurred one week after Aponte Polo publicly disclosed that she had received death threats. These threats were reportedly linked to her ongoing investigation into the conduct of a local police chief.
