Kamla Persad-Bissessar, Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, has called for unity, justice, and renewal in her message for the Hindu festival, Phagwa. Also known as Holi, the festival is celebrated worldwide and holds significant spiritual and cultural value. Persad-Bissessar emphasized the importance of uniting through traditional customs like chowtal singing and sharing of abeer and gulal. Drawing from the religious story of Prahlad and Holika, the Prime Minister reminded people that faith and righteousness always triumph over tyranny. She highlighted that societies flourish when fairness guides leadership, democracy safeguards dignity, and everyone’s rights are respected. Persad-Bissessar urged her citizens to empathize with those facing hardships globally and encouraged unity during this sacred season. Phagwa is one of the most vibrant Hindu festivals, celebrated with colorful powders, devotional singing, and community gatherings across Trinidad and Tobago.
