Passport Booklet Supply Running Critically Low in Trinidad and Tobago
Trinidad and Tobago’s supply of passport booklets is running critically low, raising concerns about the continued availability of one of the country’s most essential travel documents.
According to reports, the Immigration Division’s remaining stock of passport booklets is nearing depletion, prompting officials to carefully manage the issuance of passports while awaiting a new supply. Sources familiar with the situation have indicated that if additional booklets are not received soon, passport issuance may eventually have to be restricted to emergency cases.
At present, passport services remain operational, and there has been no official announcement that the country has exhausted its supply. However, concerns have grown after reports suggested that the rate of passport issuance has been slowed in an effort to conserve the remaining stock.
The developing situation has also sparked political debate over the procurement process for passport booklets, with questions being raised about planning, contract management and whether sufficient measures were taken to avoid the current shortage. Government officials are expected to address the issue as pressure mounts for a long-term solution.
For citizens with upcoming travel plans, the uncertainty has created understandable anxiety, particularly for those hoping to renew expired passports or apply for new travel documents in the coming weeks. Many are now awaiting further updates on when additional passport booklets will arrive and whether any changes to the application process will be introduced.
