Ishwar and Abena Clement, parents to a four-year-old boy named Ayden, are determined to seek justice for their son, who tragically died at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC) on April 17. The parents allege that the medical staff’s negligence led to Ayden’s death, a claim the North Central Regional Health Authority (NCRHA) has responded to but not to the parents’ satisfaction. The Clements contend that the medical staff failed to communicate the critical nature of Ayden’s condition, who was admitted with a limp and a swollen knee. A post-mortem examination revealed multiple organ failure, heart and breathing failure, bleeding and fluid in the lungs, a blood infection, and a suspected bone infection as the causes of Ayden’s death. The parents claim their decision not to admit Ayden to the hospital further, against medical advice, was due to the lack of clear information from medical staff about his condition. Ishwar, Ayden’s father, had heard disconcerting stories about the hospital and was reluctant to leave his only child there without a clear understanding of his medical situation.
