‘Outrageous’: French legal system slammed over fashion sex trafficking inaction

Paris-based journalist and author Dana Thomas has issued a scathing indictment of the French legal system for its failure to address decades of sex trafficking allegations in the fashion industry. In a recent interview, Thomas described it as ‘outrageous that the French legal system hasn’t done anything by now’ to hold powerful figures accountable.

Her comments come in the wake of the sudden death of Daniel Siad, a figure whose passing has complicated efforts to pursue justice. For years, allegations of sexual exploitation have swirled around the industry, spanning the globe and often involving influential personalities who have evaded consequences.

Thomas, author of ‘Deluxe: How Luxury Lost Its Luster’, criticised both law enforcement and the modelling industry for systemic failures that have allowed abuse to persist. She pointed to a pattern where powerful individuals escape accountability, leaving victims without justice.

The interview highlights growing frustration among advocates and journalists who see the French legal system as complicit in protecting the fashion world’s elite. The lack of progress, Thomas argues, is a stain on a country that prides itself on justice and human rights.
