The municipal council of Ordino approved an extraordinary credit of €1.2 million to purchase a 1,400‑square‑meter plot on Santa Bàrbara Street. The acquisition will become part of the town’s communal assets for future public facilities, the mayor, Maria del Mar Coma, said during the council session. The first step will be to clean the site and temporarily convert it into an outdoor parking area that can accommodate about 20 vehicles. “The parcel is strategically located and will be incorporated into the communal heritage for future equipment,” Coma explained. Opposition councillors voted unanimously in favour of the purchase, arguing that the price was fair and that expanding public property is beneficial for the parish. They also suggested that the land be used for a vertical parking structure to address the long‑standing parking shortage in the area. The mayor noted that the idea was largely dismissed by the governing team because of the high current construction costs and the design challenges that would arise. “A vertical parking project would require complex ramps that would significantly reduce its feasibility,” she said. In addition to the provisional parking, the council is studying the possibility of merging the new plot with the adjacent parking lot, which is currently leased under a five‑year contract. This would involve negotiations with the owners and overcoming a significant technical hurdle. The new parcel sits at a noticeably lower elevation than the existing lot, meaning that leveling works will be necessary. Separately, the municipality awarded a contract worth €497,000 to build a forest biomass storage facility at the Serrat site. The project had previously been abandoned after the first tender. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2027, with the goal of supplying heat to the sports centre’s boiler between summer and autumn of the same year.
