Opposition Demands Disclosure on Modi’s Visit Costs Amid Worker Criticism

Opposition leader Pennelope Beckles has urged the Government to disclose the taxpayer cost of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent official visit. Criticizing the Government for its handling of CEPEP workers, Beckles emphasized the need for transparency regarding the expenses incurred during Modi’s stay from July 3-4. She plans to demand this information when Parliament reconvenes in September. Beckles also accused Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar of ‘political hypocrisy’, referencing the honor bestowed upon Modi, the Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (ORTT), the highest national award.
