The National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) released a series of updates on the counting of ballots for the 2026 regional and municipal elections, which were held on Sunday, 4 October 2026. By the latest report, 26,351 ballot boxes had been submitted, of which 25,994 had been counted, representing 98.65 % of the total. ### Current vote shares At 19:09 on 24 October, the provisional results were: – Renovación Popular – 27.75 % – Avanza País – 26.80 % – Somos Perú – 15.10 % – Podemos Perú – 7.99 % – APP – 4.33 % These percentages have remained stable in subsequent updates, with minor variations in the third decimal place. Renovación Popular leads the race by a margin of roughly 54,000 votes over Avanza País. ### Counting progress The ONPE has been publishing the percentage of ballot boxes counted each day. As of 22 October, 97.60 % of the boxes had been processed, with 632 boxes pending transfer to the Special Electoral Juries (JEE). By 24 October, the count had reached 98.65 %, with only 357 boxes still pending. The JEE has received 1,286 resolved boxes and 632 pending ones from the Lima Metropolitan offices. In the San Martín and Huancavelica regions, the counting for governor and vice‑governor positions has reached 100 %. In Lima, the municipal election is in its final stage; 272 boxes have been sent for recount, and 152 public hearings have already taken place. ### Legal challenges The JEE in Lima Centro rejected a petition from the Aprista Party to annul the metropolitan elections, citing insufficient grounds. In Lima Este 2, 54 of the 240 cases received remain under review, making it the jurisdiction with the most pending cases. ### Second round Under Peruvian electoral law, a second round for regional governors and vice‑governors will be held on Sunday, 6 December 2026 in any region where no candidate pair achieves at least 30 % of valid votes. The current results indicate that several regions will require a runoff. ### Compensation for election officials Members of the electoral tables who were selected by lottery have been able to choose their payment method through the ONPE’s digital platform. They can collect their compensation at any Banco de la Nación branch until 31 December 2026. The ONPE provides a portal for checking the status of payments. ### Summary The 2026 regional and municipal elections are almost complete, with the leading party, Renovación Popular, holding a narrow lead over Avanza País. The counting process is progressing steadily, and the final results will be confirmed after the resolution of the remaining ballot boxes and any legal challenges. A second round is scheduled for 6 December in regions where no candidate pair has secured the required threshold.
