Ombudsman probes more flood control project irregularities

The Office of the Ombudsman announced on Monday that it is conducting fact‑finding and preliminary investigations into additional alleged irregularities in flood‑control projects. Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla said that further cases will be filed in court once investigators have gathered sufficient evidence. Remulla declined to provide a specific timeline for the filing of the next batch of cases, noting that the process would depend on the evidence obtained. He emphasized that there are many ongoing fact‑finding and preliminary investigations related to the matter. When asked by the Daily Tribune about when the next cases would be filed, Remulla reiterated that the Ombudsman would proceed to court only when the evidence is adequate to support the filing of charges. He did not identify the particular flood‑control projects or individuals who might be included in the upcoming cases. The investigations are part of the government’s broader effort to hold accountable those allegedly involved in irregularities in flood‑control projects.
