Åstorp municipal council held its first meeting after the recent election. The new council is a minority government, with two separate opposition groups. The meeting was marked by a direct challenge to the minority administration. During a vote on the municipality’s refugee reception policy, the council lost when Åstorpspartiet voted together with the opposition. Peter Lindberg, chair of the council and a member of the Sweden Democrats, said, “If the majority turns out like this, we have to leave.” The statement reflects the tension between the governing coalition and the opposition on this issue.
