Nurse Wage Negotiations ‘Non-Negotiable’ by Early 2026, says TTRNA President

Idi Stuart, the President of the Trinidad and Tobago Registered Nurses Association (TTRNA), has urged for wage negotiations for nurses to be finalized by January or February 2026, marking the timeframe as non-negotiable. He emphasized the importance of swift resolution, even willing to meet over the Christmas period to avoid the ‘flammable’ situation in the healthcare sector. Stuart also blamed the previous government’s self-serving wage increase for their electoral loss and warned the new administration against repeating the error. He expressed concern over unresolved back pay issues and staffing shortages which could cause severe disruption to healthcare services. Looking towards 2026, Stuart outlined the association’s priorities as concluding wage negotiations, addressing staffing shortages, and tackling infrastructure challenges in the health sector.
