No Cargo Backlog in Trinidad or Tobago, Confirms Minister

On 23rd February 2026, Jearlean John, the Minister of Works and Infrastructure confirmed that there is no cargo backlog at the Port of Port of Spain and the Port of Scarborough, Tobago. This confirmation came after her visit to the Blue Wave Harmony and the inter-island ferry terminal. During the visit, the Minister met with the General Manager/CEO of the Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago, the Acting President of the National Infrastructure Development Company Limited (NIDCO), and operational teams. The review on cargo handling performance, vessel turnaround times, and storage capacity showed no backlog in Trinidad or Tobago. The Blue Wave Harmony, with a capacity of 1,925 lane meters of cargo, is currently in the sea-trial phase. All presented cargo for shipment has been cleared for sailing. The vessel is expected to enter its commercial phase on March 1, 2026. The government reiterated that efficient cargo movement between Trinidad and Tobago is a national priority and the Minister will continue to ensure operational efficiency and reliable inter-island cargo service.
