Escuela N.º 75 Brigadier General Manuel Oribe, located on Avenida Martín Salaberry in Durazno, is preparing to celebrate its 75th anniversary on November 30, 2026. To mark the occasion, the school’s development commission and associated families have launched an initiative to renovate the building and document the institution’s history.
On September 17, 2026, National Party councilor Raulo Morán presented a formal request to the Durazno Departmental Board on behalf of the school. The request, based on a letter dated September 15, 2026, was signed by commission president Pablo Rodao, secretary Leticia Rojas, and member Daniela Laborde. The document outlines the community’s efforts to improve the school’s facilities, specifically through painting and general maintenance.
The commission stated that current funds are insufficient to cover the necessary materials for these improvements. Consequently, they have requested that the Departmental Board provide paint and other supplies to assist with the building’s restoration.
Beyond physical repairs, the school community is working on a project to preserve its institutional memory. This initiative involves collecting photographs, documents, and testimonies from former students and others connected to the school to commemorate its legacy in the community.
