Police investigators from the Centro Judicial Police (PJ) are looking into the disappearance of 63‑year‑old Pedro Paiva, who vanished on 22 July after leaving his home in Montemor‑o‑Velho for a bicycle ride to Figueira da Foz. Paiva was last seen riding his bicycle in Figueira da Foz and did not return home.

Since the disappearance, the Portuguese National Republican Guard (GNR) and firefighters have conducted searches in the area using tracking dogs and drones, but have not found any trace of Paiva or his bicycle.

Family members and friends have launched a public petition urging authorities to resume the search. The petition has gathered around one thousand signatures and requests that the search be extended to the rice and corn fields of the Baixo Mondego region, between Figueira da Foz and Montemor‑o‑Velho, where Paiva was last seen.

Authorities have also located the GPS signal from Paiva’s mobile phone in the same fields. After the family notified police of the missing person a week after the disappearance, investigators carried out further inquiries in the area.

Despite these efforts, no new information has emerged regarding Paiva’s whereabouts or the condition of his bicycle. The family remains hopeful that renewed searches will yield results.

For further information, the family has requested that the public and authorities assist in locating the missing cyclist.
