An Ontario teacher and Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) trustee has been found guilty of professional misconduct.
During a student achievement committee meeting on November 7, 2019, the trustee spoke out against the inclusion of terms such as “gender identity,” “gender expression,” “marital status,” and “family status” in the school board’s code of conduct. The trustee referred to the proposal as a “slippery slope” and suggested that if such protective measures were adopted, the board should also include dozens of other unrelated terms in the document, including those related to zoophilia, pedophilia, vampirism, and other paraphilias.
The Ontario College of Teachers ruled that the trustee’s actions constituted verbal abuse. The decision found the trustee guilty of professional misconduct.
The incident has been reported, but further details are available through additional sources.
