New Pharmacy Partnership Makes Prescription Drugs Easier for Foreigners in Czechia

**Maxima pojišťovna expands pharmacy network to simplify prescription drug access for non‑EU residents**

Prague, Czech Republic – Maxima pojišťovna, one of the country’s largest private health insurers, has announced a new partnership with the LÉKÁRNA U MUZEA pharmacy in Prague 1. The agreement allows foreign residents who are not members of the European Union and who hold Maxima commercial health insurance to collect prescription medicines at the pharmacy without having to pay the full cost upfront.

Under the new arrangement, the pharmacy and the insurer will settle the payment directly, mirroring the reimbursement process used by patients covered by the Czech public health insurance system. The change is intended to reduce administrative burdens and help non‑EU residents navigate the Czech healthcare system more easily.

According to Maxima, nearly 900,000 people from outside the EU have been living in the Czech Republic on a long‑term basis, representing about 8.2 % of the country’s population. The insurer said the new partnership is part of its effort to improve service for this growing demographic.

Previously, foreign clients with commercial health insurance were required to pay for prescribed medicines at the pharmacy and then submit receipts to their insurer for reimbursement. The new model eliminates that step, allowing eligible Maxima clients to receive their medication directly from the partner pharmacy while the financial settlement occurs between the pharmacy and the insurer.

The partnership with LÉKÁRNA U MUZEA is the first step in expanding Maxima’s network of partner pharmacies across the Czech Republic. The insurer has not yet announced a timetable for additional pharmacy agreements.
