Nepal misses power generation target by 381 MW amid project delays

Nepal fell 381 megawatts short of its electricity generation target in the last fiscal year, according to the Nepal Electricity Authority. The government had aimed to add 942 MW to the national grid but managed only 561 MW. Twenty-five hydropower and solar projects with a combined capacity of 560.99 MW were connected during the period. Officials cited delays in construction and commissioning as key reasons for the shortfall. The gap raises questions about the country’s ability to meet growing energy demand and achieve its renewable energy goals. The NEA has not yet announced specific measures to accelerate pending projects.
