This comes as the first national vote since widespread protests against corruption, economic constraints, and political elite privileges led to Oli’s government collapse in September. The youth unemployment rate remains high, with about 20% still jobless. The upcoming March 5, 2026, election is set to elect Nepal’s 16th prime minister in less than 20 years, emphasizing the country’s political instability since the monarchy’s abolition in 2008. Millions of citizens will choose representatives for the House of Representatives, the powerful lower Parliament chamber. The party or coalition that wins a majority will determine the prime minister, making the election a pivotal moment for Nepal’s future.
