The San Antonio Spurs defeated the Phoenix Suns 122‑106 in the third game of the season, snapping a 0‑2 start that would have matched the franchise’s worst opening stretch since the 2008‑09 campaign. Spurs star Victor Wembanyama led the way with 23 points, seven rebounds and four blocks. He was supported by Dylan Harper’s 21 points, De’Aaron Fox’s 19, Stephon Castle’s 19 and Devin Vassell’s 11 points with six assists. All five starters recorded double‑digit scoring, a first‑half 68‑60 lead that the team never relinquished. Phoenix entered the game without Kyrie Irving and Cooper Flagg, who were out with injuries. The Suns’ starters combined for only 50 points, and rookie Sergio De Larrea, coming off the bench, finished with a team‑high 21 points. Phoenix’s offense was strong in the paint, scoring 46 points in the first half – the most by a Suns team in a half since the 1997‑98 season – but the lack of its key players limited its overall output. The Spurs dominated the boards, grabbing 15 offensive rebounds and building a 25‑10 advantage in the second half. A 30‑17 run in the third quarter and a 17‑5 burst in the final period sealed the victory. The win prevented the Spurs from becoming the first team since 2008‑09 to lose its first three games of a season.
