Nawaz Sharif Pledges Major Development Package for AJK, Including International Airport in Mirpur

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday pledged a comprehensive development package for Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), vowing to complete long-delayed infrastructure projects, establish modern healthcare facilities, and build an international airport in Mirpur if his party returns to power.

Addressing a gathering in Mirpur, Sharif said the package would transform AJK’s economy and improve the quality of life for residents. He criticized the current government for neglecting the region and promised that a PML-N government would prioritize AJK’s development.

The announcement underscores the political significance of AJK, a region with strong emotional ties for Pakistanis. Analysts view the pledge as part of PML-N’s broader electoral strategy to win support in the region ahead of the upcoming elections.

Sharif also assured that all projects would be completed within stipulated timelines, with transparent monitoring to prevent delays. The international airport in Mirpur, he said, would boost tourism and trade, connecting AJK to global markets.
