The National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology convened at Parliament House in Islamabad to discuss widespread complaints about poor mobile and internet services across Pakistan.

Chairperson MNA Syed Amin‑ul‑Haq expressed serious concern, noting that users often have to repeat calls because of connectivity problems and stressing the urgency of improving mobile service quality.

Officials from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) acknowledged that mobile and internet quality remain problematic in various parts of the country. They reported that four show‑cause notices were issued to telecom operators in the past six months, and that over the past several years the authority has issued 48 show‑cause notices, 22 warning letters and imposed fines totaling Rs68.9 million.

PTA officials also indicated that the authority can impose a maximum fine of Rs350 million on a telecom company under its regulatory powers.

Committee members highlighted widespread consumer problems. Ahmad Atiq said mobile service issues affect around 70 percent of areas in the country. Dr Mahesh Kumar complained that Ufone’s service was effectively unavailable in some areas. Shazia Fareed raised concerns about poor mobile connectivity at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, where users were unable to make calls properly.
