NASA’s Artemis II mission marks a significant milestone as the first crewed deep-space venture since Apollo 17 in 1972. Leading the charge is Venezuelan engineer Nathalie Quintero, who serves as the Core Stage Operations Lead. Quintero’s journey into aerospace was inspired by her father, a military pilot, and she has since dedicated her career to this field.
At just 17, Quintero left Venezuela to pursue her education in aerospace, first at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida and later at Cornell University, where she earned a Master’s in Systems Engineering. Her educational background has well-prepared her for her current role, where she coordinates teams at Kennedy Space Center for the testing and launch of Artemis II.
Quintero’s contributions to NASA are notable; she was also involved in the successful launch of the Artemis spacecraft in 2022, setting the stage for future missions. Beyond her technical role, she is deeply passionate about engaging the next generation of aerospace professionals.
To further this aim, Quintero launched the social media initiative STEM for Aerospace, providing bilingual content to inspire youth interested in the aerospace industry. Through partnerships with schools and non-profits, she promotes STEM education and actively participates in outreach efforts, both virtually and in person.
