Nakacinda Awaits Fate as Seditious Practices Judgment Set for Today

Patriotic Front faction Secretary General Raphael Nakacinda is expected to know his fate today when the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court delivers judgment in his seditious practices case. The case stems from allegations that Nakacinda posted on social media that President Hakainde Hichilema directed the Zambia Police, the Drug Enforcement Commission, and the Anti-Corruption Commission to raid former President Edgar Lungu.

The charges have drawn attention as a high-profile test of political free speech in Zambia. Nakacinda, a vocal critic of the current administration, has maintained that his comments were based on public interest and not intended to incite sedition.

Observers say the outcome could set a precedent for how political dissent is treated in the country. Both supporters of the PF and the ruling party are watching closely as the court delivers its ruling. The magistrate is expected to read the judgment at 9:00 AM local time.
