Advertisements for surrogate motherhood services have appeared on the social media platform Facebook, targeting users in Croatia. The ads, placed by the Ukrainian company IVMED, offer surrogacy services starting at 45,850 euros, a price point the company markets as a cost-effective alternative to similar procedures in the United States or Mexico.
The advertisements, which have been active since May, specifically target women between the ages of 25 and 54 and have reportedly accumulated more than 200,000 views. The service is presented as a form of infertility treatment and includes legal processing fees.
In late August, Kristina Zaneta raised concerns regarding these advertisements in the newspaper Slobodna Dalmacija. Under Croatian law, surrogate motherhood—the process of carrying and giving birth to a child for another person—is explicitly prohibited, as is the advertising of such services.
When Zaneta reported the advertisements to Meta, the parent company of Facebook, she received an automated response stating that the content did not violate platform policies. Because IVMED is registered as a consulting agency rather than a medical institution, the platform did not categorize the advertisements as sensitive medical content.
